  • Reporting Multiple Glaucoma Procedures

    January 2019

I would like to direct your attention to two different sources that have stated you cannot report two glaucoma procedures when both services are performed on the same eye during the same surgical session and in this case using the same surgical instrument.

CPT Assistant published information last month which stated that when transluminal dilation of the aqueous outflow canal (Schlemm’s canal) is performed followed by a goniotomy on the same eye, you would only report 66174 (transluminal dilation) and the goniotomy would be incidental to 66174. Additionally, last summer the AAO (American Academy of Ophthalmology) stated that when performing glaucoma procedures – “Only one angle procedure or canal implant should be reported per eye per surgical session”.
